About the authors
Neal Barbera grew up in Santa Monica, California, where he spent much of his time surfing State Beach, County Line, Huntington Beach and further south at Newport and Laguna Beach. He also made a career out of writing cartoons for television featuring characters as Yogi Bear, Snagglepuss and Tom & Jerry. While in Laguna he accidently bumped into a group from the Ocean Conservancy who were passing around a petition to ‘Save the Beach’. After the encounter he thought why not save the ocean. All five of them. He could use his animation and writing skills, and so ‘Shark Rider’ was born.
Patrick Regan was a close friend of Barbera’s and jumped at the opportunity of collaborating on Shark Rider. Regan brought the spiritual side of the story into focus with Tibetan mountain energy and meditation.
Kátia Moraes is a poet and visual artist who worked with Barbera on another project. Her Brazilian poetic view of the world linked the currents of the oceans with the inner movements of the characters stressing the point that if the oceans die, so goes the planet.
